Pack Hike
What: Pack 570 Hike
Where: Al's Trail on the McLaughlin Vineyards loop.
When: Sunday, June 13, 1:00 pm sharp
Who: all Pack 570 families
Why: for fun and for your summer pin, Arrow of Light or
World Conservation Award or Leave No Trace
Wear: your yellow Pack 570 t-shirt
Bring: a bottle of water, and come fed
We'll be hiking on Al's Trail, on the McLaughlin Vineyards loop. The trail is approximately 2 miles long, and should take about an hour. The trail starts at the McLaughlin Vineyards parking lot (directions below). We will hike 1+ miles through the woods (the trails are marked) following the Shepaug River towards the Shepaug Dam. We then follow Alberts Hill Road for a short ways, then follow the Iroquois Pipeline right back to the parking lot. The trail is probably 1/2 flat, 1/2 hills. It is marked as "easy" on Al's Trail website.
Here is the info on the McLaughlin Vineyards loop:
http://www.alstrail.org/content/segment/mclaughlin-vineyards
Here are directions for parking at McLaughlin Vineyards:
http://www.alstrail.org/content/parking/mclaughlin-vineyards
When you pull into the driveway, follow the hand pointing signs to the parking area. It is at the bottom of a hill, with vines to the left, and a stone wall on the right, a loop is in the driveway at the end of this parking lot.
This event will count towards earning your Summer Pin. It is a very beautiful hike. It will count for your Webelos for the Arrow of Light, if you're scouts are working on it, it will also count towards the World Conservation Award, and the Leave No Trace award.
We'll meet at the parking lot at 1:00 PM sharp on Sunday afternoon, and start the hike shortly thereafter.
Thanks, and I really hope to see you there!!!

The Newtown
Forest Association, will be sponsoring monthly guided nature walks on some
of its properties.
All scout families are welcome and membership is not required.
Each of these walks will be lead by one or more NFA Board Members
who will explain the history of the property and the
NFA, discuss some of the plant and wildlife found on the property and communicate
other land preservation activities
going on in and around Newtown.
These hikes will take between 1-2 hours and will be for people at
all levels. Family participation is encouraged as these
trails are family friendly.
As the sun and ticks are always a risk, we like to inform all hikers
to dress properly and wear adequate sun and tick protection.
Upon the conclusion of each hike all should thoroughly inspect themselves for

Bus Trip
Date: Sunday,
August 27, 2006
We're going to the Bronx Zoo!
Depart: 8:30am - Newtown High School Parking lot
Return: From Bronx Zoo at 3:30pm to arrive at Newtown High School around 5pm.
Bronx
Zoo Web Site Here
Pack 570 will be chartering a (fancy!) bus for our annual bus trip. This trip
is made possible by your son's popcorn sales - so it is important to remind
them that this would not be possible without their own efforts! It also makes
it easy to understand that our budget allows for only one bus to be chartered.
Therefore we will be handling
this the same way we did last year: first come, first serve … with
preference towards scout(s) and one parent, then siblings and additional
adults if bus seats are available. Pack 570 Scouts registered for the
05-06 program are free, admission to the Zoo is $5 for additional siblings
