ST. ROSE CUB SCOUTS PACK 570
GAINS NATIONAL RECOGNITION!

Pack 570 of Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut was recently awarded the National Gold Medallion Award,
given to groups of Cub Scouts who exhibit growth while being committed to Scouting and serving their communities.

Throughout 2006, the pack was involved in dozens of events and activities that highlighted their dedication to the community. The Cub Scouts held a fundraising bake sale called “Pack 570 Cub’s For A Cure Bake Sale.” They also contributed to the same fund by participating in a carwash. In addition to their fundraising efforts, the pack collected canned goods at every meeting held in 2006, which they donated to the local food pantry. On Earth Day, the Scouts raked and planted the lawn in front of St. Rose’s Education Building in Newtown, doing their part for the good of the environment.

Pack 570 met the religious criteria of the National Gold Medallion Award by exceeding most other Cub Scout groups in religious participation and dedication. Over half of the Scouts took part in achieving the Rosary Patch, gained by attending workshops run by Fr. Bob Weiss. The group received the Pope Paul VI National Unit Award, given to outstanding Catholic Scouting units. The pack’s strong relationship with St. Rose of Lima Parish has also been beneficial for the Cub Scouts, who do much fundraising by scheduling sales after masses. They also use the church hall as a meeting place. The parish, in return, has benefited from the much of the Scouts’ volunteer activities. The growth of Pack 570 by 10 percent in 2006 is an impressive figure that documents the group’s dedication to the advancement of Scouting. The volunteer work and community service provided by the pack has been very beneficial for both the town and the Scouts themselves, who continue to refine and improve their character through selflessness and charity. Pack 570’s actions have certainly made it deserving of this important, honorable, and prestigious award.
