Pack 570 May/June Family Hikes

participate -- indicate what hike(s) you wish to attend and include a headcount for each.

May Hike
Who: Open to all Pack 570 cub scouts and their families
What: Pack 570 Family Hike
Date: Saturday, 5/17 (Rain date: will be rescheduled if rain)
Time: 10:00 a.m. - Noon
Where: Huntington State Park, Redding, CT
Price: No Charge

Directions -- Below
Trail -- The trail will take approx. 2 hours and is considered an easy trail to hike. The trail is not stroller accessible. If you plan on bringing younger siblings, please make arrangements for another adult to watch over them.
Drop-off Program? -- No, at least one parent must accompany their scout for the duration of this event.
Snacks and drinks -- Bring your own snacks and drinks. Bring a bag for your garbage.
Uniform -- Scout uniform should be worn. Wear comfortable shoes.
Facilities -- There is one portable toilet at the beginning of the trail.
Inclement weather -- Check your e-mail on 5/17 if the weather is questionable.
Pets -- Optional, but must be leashed and must be good with crowds. Waste must be cleaned up.

June Hike
Who: Open to everyone in Newtown (not just scout packs)
What: Newtown Forest Association (NFA) Connecticut Trail Day Hike
Date: Saturday, 6/7 (Rain date: 6/8 at 1:00 p.m.)
Time: 10:00 a.m. - Noon
Where: Holcombe Wildlife Preserve, Newtown, CT
Price: No Charge -- contributions to the NFA are greatly appreciated.
Hike Guide: Guides will be supplied by the NFA

Directions -- Below
Trail -- The hike will include a trip to the top of Holcombe Hill which is the highest point in Newtown with spectacular 360 degree views deep into the Litchfield hills. The hike will take approx. 2 hours and is considered an easy trail to hike. The trail is not stroller accessible. If you plan on bringing younger siblings, please make arrangements for another adult to watch over them.

Uniform -- Scout uniform should be worn. Wear appropriate footwear as conditions can be often wet in certain areas.
Facilities -- The NFA will open up their office at the end of the hike if a bathroom is needed.

Pets -- Optional, but must be leashed and must be good with crowds. Waste must be cleaned up.

Directions to Huntington State Park, Redding, CT from St. Rose:

- LEFT onto Church Hill Rd.
- Continue STRAIGHT to flagpole (in the middle of Main St.).
- Turn LEFT onto Main St.
- Turn RIGHT onto Rte 302 (Sugar Street). Continue for approx. 2.5 miles.
- LEFT onto Key Rock Rd.
- Follow Key Rock Rd. to intersection with Hattertown Rd. Go STRAIGHT at the stop sign at the intersection.
- Key Rock Rd. becomes Poverty Hollow Rd. Follow Poverty Hollow and go past the horse farm on your right.
- Turn RIGHT onto Hopewell Rd. and go approx. 2 miles to end.
- Turn RIGHT at stop sign onto Rte 58.
- Take immediate RIGHT onto Sunset Hill Rd (winding road with a sharp curve).
- Collis P. Huntington State Park is 0.8 miles on the RIGHT.
- We will meet in the parking lot near the two animal statues.

- LEFT onto Church Hill Rd.
- Continue STRAIGHT to flagpole (in the middle of Main St.).
- Go STRAIGHT across Main St onto West St.
- Turn RIGHT onto Castle Hill Rd.
- At stop sign go STRAIGHT.
- Go past the NFA sign on your left.
- The road forks -- Stay to the LEFT.
- At stop sign go STRAIGHT .
- Go past the NFA sign on your left where the big Red Barn is.
- The road will curve to the RIGHT.
- Look for #55 on your left (The hike will start and conclude at 55 Great Hill Road which is approximately ¼ mile past the big Red Barn).
- There is a driveway leading up the hill to the NFA office from the main parking area. Park in the main parking area or on the grass off this driveway.
